James Poole has been based in the London Re/insurance market for 22 years. Qualifying as a Chartered Insurance Broker and then Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute, James studied for his MBA at the Open University Business School. Then reflecting on his experience, he began to see an increasingly urgent need for a new generation of Business Turnaround leaders in financial services and beyond, and this led him to reach out to Tony Groom, to become an Associate with K2 Business Partners, and to learn how to lead in Turnaround situations by studying to be Certified Turnaround Analyst with the EACTP.

James leads a venture-funded business called Agile Risk Advisory, itself an entirely new operating model in the 300 year-old London's Re/insurance market—with this business seeing his team use Machine Learning models to create value for clients in two categories:
1. Large Corporate Clients whose insurance programmes can be restructured to generate NPV; and
2. Risk Capital Investors interested in allocating capital to a set of innovative ILS (insurance linked security) arrangements focused on generating risk-adjusted returns.

James expects to grow Agile into a £100m EV business over the next 4 years, and he hopes to use this to acquire and turnaround businesses in the sector, with the hope that this will position him as an experienced Turnaround director in UK business more generally.
